Nicholas, your are a tonic.
I have been a regional lawyer for 25+ years. Now, a regional lawyer is 'close' to his clients, and we see and experience the effect of government.
Simply, the bureaucratic burden continues apace, and places cost and inconvenience on the ordinary citizen. And the apathy or arrogance of the adminocrats is astounding.

An example or two. The two executors who had to attend the Bank to pass the 100 point check, just to withdraw $37:20 from the deceased's account. Why can't there be an exemption from the rules for small amounts? ( Nice irony- because the Executors had the card and PIN, they withdrew $500 per week from the ATM post-death - it was the last little bit that spiked the plan)
Or the Police reports that once came at the Solicitors request, but now need a subpoena, because of the Privacy laws. So now we have to commence Court action just to know how good, or bad,our clients case is (e.g. injuries from a traffic collision).
And the Registrar of Births etc, who wants a photocopy of my ID whenever I write and ask for a death certificate.( I am at least grateful that this 'security measure' is so half-hearted).

Surely the fault is with our parliamentary representatives who allow this to happen. Maybe they are the rowers, and the Head of the Department is the cox?
