Clearly the so-called 'right' end of the blogosphere are lacking anything concrete to whine about if Lefty-pickin' is the best Blair can do. Bannerman also notes that Steve Edwards still hasn't had his brain pan drained after all those years at UWA.

And the 'easy' answer is to put any images on the right if they conflict with the callouts. I might just do that myself ...

Ken;

Along with cam I've been investigating some alternatives in the past few hours.

1. As a set of extra buttons on the wiki wysiwyg editor: not possible. You can still achieve it from the Source button.

2. As a feature for a custom, self-hosted wiki: possible, but it would be a real hassle to set up.

3. If the wiki changes to using Textile or Markdown, it becomes much easier to do, but you'd have to give up the wysiwyg editor.

4. A Wordpress plugin would be less difficult than options 1 and 2, though not as easy as 3.

As for the breakouts-with-images thing - I'm not sure. CSS is more sorcery than science in my experience. I might have another go at it in future, but don't hold your breath.

Yes, it looks good Jacques (once the format thing Ken mentions is fixed). Allowing for a little personality, without disrupting the flow of the main text, can't hurt.

Jacques

Yes I think it's a great idea as long as it's not overused.

(1) it would need to be built into the wiki or Wordpress and be very simple to use. It wouldn't be any good if you had to retrofit the breakout boxes after each ML was published.

(2) Is there any way to stop the text being pushed down the page when the breakout occurs adjacent to a photo? Perhaps some code instructing the box to breakout below the associated body text rather than to the right if the breakout box is unable to justify to the right margin???

Do you think it's a good idea doing callouts for editorial remarks? I'm aiming at working up a little tool to make it easier for your good selves.

That's fine Jacques - I wanted to mention the capital punishment thingy, but Ken beat me to it. Shows that both the lawyers were on the same track, if nothing else!

I should advise that I'm going to be fiddling with style and markup for this document to try and separate the "editorial" comments out a bit, which I think might improve readability.

Apologies to anyone in advance to anyone feeling sorely confused by the chopping and changing!
