What is leftist about romanticising poverty, JS? If you just mean a certain bias against consumerism, or a greater predisposition to notice the merits of traditional technologies in certain cases, that’s fair. But the left is in favour of good toilets.

Because Austrolabe often does not credit individual posters, we do not know who puts up individual posts/guest posts and what his or her views of them are. I note that you ran Dr Ali’s piece before the Australian, the publication for which it was commissioned. That suggests a degree of cooperation with somebody, at least to this humble hack.

I will also say that I noted a lively difference of opinion on the site, and that you don’t appear to have ’sunk’ (or driven) many of Dr Ali’s views (or those of Irfan Yusuf, either, who also took issue with you). Maybe this was because you disagreed so strongly with Dr Ali that you didn’t write your response particularly clearly.

And finally, I’d prefer it if you kept your intra-Islamic stoushes to your own blog. Missing Link is meant to take readers to other blogs. That is its raison d’etre.

There are a couple of things that I wish to clarify

1. I would rather request my pet rock or the insane ramblings of a catatonic schizophrenic to write a guest post on my website ahead of Ameer Ali.

2. Ipso facto we only put up his essay so that we could line it up with a 1 wood and drive that turd into trees, which I took great pleasure in doing.

3. Ameer Ali’s essay is shit, and the reason we know it is because the more one plays with it, the more it stinks

4. I suggest you re-read his essay and my response to it.

Maybe you should have a Club Troppo “Bloggertainment” section, specifically for shallow-minded blogs like mine, which just seek to profit tabloid-style from ripping into easy targets?

Thanks for the link to the post on active/passive language in reporting gendered violence, but that was actually written by my new co-blogger at Hoyden About Town, Lauredhel, and not by me. I agree it’s an excellent post, and folks should check out some of her other posts as well.
