Sometimes, as with <em>Giulio Cesare</em> or <em>Aida</em> or <em>Die Meistersinger</em>, onstage musicians are stipulated. In other cases, miming is required (for example, Leporello's serenade impersonating the Don in <em>Don Giovanni</em> or <em>Voi che sapete</em> in <em>The Marriage of Figaro</em>). In any event, in this production, <a href="http://marcellous.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/figaro-figaro-feeeeeeegaro/" rel="nofollow">as I have noted</a>, Jose Carbo did play the guitar for the second serenade, and the air-piano playing in the music lesson scene turned the joke around. Importantly, she can act. I remember seeing her in Die Fledermaus 10 years ago as Adele, and she stole the performance. She's also plenty buxom - a very well-rounded star.
