Some Christmas correspondence from another time

I found this document in a filing cabinet at home on Christmas Day but Troppo was down.  But I thought it was an interesting document to ’share’ as Dr Phil would say.

Except you can’t really read it. What does he say in reply?

    Dear Fred,

I cannot tell you how much I appreciated your note.

I don’t expect the ordinary bod [?] to understand all the linkages and what we are trying to achieve - but I do expect many of the serious people to at least see it an some sort of framework. Unfortunately so many of them don’t - or if they do, hey rarely say so.

Not only have you said so - but you understand it all too well.

We have made our mistakes, or more fundamentally I have made mine - but those that have been made have been genuine ones and not ones made to be politically tricky or or [sic] through irresponsibility.

I am not discouraged Fred, but nor am I certain that all will go as we should like.

At any rate I intend to keep on trying.

Thanks very much for the encouragement.

Could I wish [?] you and Ann a happy Christmas and a good 1991.

    Warm regards,

    Paul Keating.
