Heirs to Exile

Annabel Crabb in today’s SMH says that Josh Young is the second most senior Liberal in office in the country. Josh is President of the University of Queensland student union.
It’s a pity that:
a) Annabel didn’t bother looking around a bit more — not a few Liberal students become council members, including Gareth Ward in Shoalhaven, and
b) that the Liberals are in such a precarious place.
Incidentally, the CLP had a party-room spill yesterday, and today Terry Mills is again Leader of the Opposition. In a 2-vs-2 split, Jodeen Carney fell on her own sword to move things along.

They run for council positions — in most places called “aldermen”, sometimes “councillor”.

Is there something special about the office of the Mayor of Brisbane that makes it higher office than other positions of Mayor? Seems like the media are reminding everyone how prone they are to reporting rubbish.
Posted on 31-Jan-08 at 1:15 am | PermalinkBy what authority do you place council members at a higher level than presidents of a student union? Is there some sort of Debrett’s Guide to help us work out the pecking order?
Posted on 31-Jan-08 at 7:16 am | PermalinkBecause city councils are, to a small degree, less about circle-jerking and peacock posturing than student unions.
