that is my address; praps try again. I am fairly sure I exist, but I guess only the pope and Tony Abbott know for sure. praps you could try a very short email at the address above, and see what happens. I note that I recently said “richie_bem” not “richie_ben” wnich might have caused confusion. It is perhaps a typo I have innocently committed before. Thanks for keeping me in mind; it would be, I think, a fun thing to do, or at least an interesting thing.

Update - Gummo Trotsky has decided to give the lefty coverage a try, although he’s not sure how it will go, so if Richard Phillipps doesn’t mind I’ll keep him in mind. ML tends to have a bit of a turnover of team members because, although it really is only around 30-40 minutes a day (provided you’re disciplined and don’t stray off browsing from posts you’re revewing), but it’s five days a week which can get a bit wearing when you have lots of other pressures. However I try to fulfil a “fallback” role and cover a category when the usual person for that section gets jammed with more important tasks (which inevitably occurs).

On arts we now have several volunteers, but that’s good because it’s a diverse categorisation and everyone has their own interests. I’m thinking (if everyone’s willing) we might try it with Tim Sterne covering literature, Amanda Rose and Stephen Hill on music (with Stephen providing fallback on litblogs), Jen covering theatre and hopefully Darlene filling in when she can. of course, the rest of us can also add arts items where we come across them in our assigned categories.

That’s a really fantastic response and thanks to everyone. It confirms my own biased opinion that ML really is a valuable service that we in the blogosphere need to keep going to enhance accessibility to a wider audience. That’s actually one of the main purposes of inserting those irritating ads in the Troppo banner and sidebar. We’re hoping to generate some income to:

(a) pay Jacques a modest retainer for his IT maintenance efforts; and
(b) pay for some modest MSM advertising to bring Missing Link and the blogosphere generally to the attention of a general audience. Whether and to what extent that will prove feasible will depend on how much money the ads bring in.

I believe that “30 to 40 minutes” like I believe check is in the mail etc. I would, sadly, nonetheless like to try the lefty blog thing. I assume I would get a list of the said blogs, and that someone would show me how to do links (which cannot be too hard, computer nerds do it). I have an optus cable connection which seems to work well. No real cv wth club t: I did a few posts on legal issues a couple of years ago, but I would like to try the job. I assume no pay, no birthday card, no free lunch, and no point offering back stage passes to groupies cos there are none.

I could probably do the arts round Ken, I already scan the good literary blogs (some Australian, mainly international) and also some of the blogs that offer film coverage, I could easily stretch this into covering more music, I’m still a regular gig-goer and could bore everyone with obscure references to long forgotten/underrated bands (although this indulgence could become the intellectual equivalent of listening to a 30 minute drum solo).

If the scanning and reading time is around 30-40 minutes I think its probably doable (although I’ll have busy periods later in the year.) The only problem is my home internet connection has been a little shaky the last couple of weeks (it has its bad days).
