Re 2: reference to "hate groups" of the 80's by Francis Xavier Holden

Please compare with the HONORS list at :

to see there is little need to defend Prem Rawat or his message and life's work!

The link in the jrbach comment @1 is to a video of Prem Pal Rawat the fat wealthy cult leader of what is now called Elan Vital.

He was previously better known when he was about 13 as "Guru Maharaj Ji". You might have also heard of his The Divine Light Mission alongside other cults such as the Unification Church, the Children of God, the Hare Krishnas, the Church of Scientology, and the People's Temple

Unfortunately the wikipedia entry on Prem and Divine Light Mission has been hijacked and controlled by a cult member who is also a high level Wiki administrator.

the moral goalposts keep moving, because we keep changing our mindsin every available sense of that term

Ahh Nicholas the mercurial fluidity of the mind, ceaselessly flowing from concept to concept like a busy little bee; does it speak of its own limitations? And we love to gather up concepts, knit them together into a garment of choice!

If intellect were a matchstick, no measure to turn end over end and conquer the universe even if it spanned a Milky Way.

When does mind become silent? Whenever Existence itself is contemplated because nothing can be known; IT can only be FELT.

And there I think you will find your own personal bedrock. When you were a kid everything was learnt from feeling (perhaps thought about later). But feeling came first! Then somebody sent you to a school and you had to leave behind the beautiful capacity for feeling that you exercised so freely, that brought you so much joy, without even thinking about it - and somebody taught you to use the mind instead (remember the tedium of the 3 rs chalk and talk). Feeling was sacrificed. And is not intuition the dim remnant?

Try : http://inspire.contactinfo.net/v5_i157/story_2.htm
