This cute munchkin holding two simple T-shirts is Catherine Vogt, an 8th grade student in Illinois. As an experiment she wore a “McCain Girl” T-shirt one day and a “Obama Girl” T-shirt the next. She recorded people’s reactions.

Illinois is, it comes as no surprise, fairly solid Obama country. She recorded abuse and invective from students and teachers on the day she wore the “McCain” T-shirt, and praise and some puzzlement about the switch on the day she wore the “Obama” T-shirt.

Naturally I expect RWDBs in the US to seize on this as evidence that Obama is, personally, the devil and directly responsible for all in-group/out-group bias since ancient Sumeria. I also expect LWDBs to come up with counter examples from McCain country.

Tribalism is a troublesome part of the human condition. Plus ça change …
