Download feed OMPL
What’s an OPML, you might well ask? It’s the file that tells a feed reader what RSS and other feeds to retrieve for you. I use my OPML to monitor blogs and alternative media sites that most frequently generate material for the Missing Link feature or to spark an idea for a post.
This isn’t the OPML we actually use to scan blogs for Missing Link itself. That contains many hundreds of subscriptions and is far too large for any one person to manage. My own personal OPML is much more selective than that. I use it mostly to generate items for Missing Link when a designated team member is too busy to contribute. It doesn’t include lots of blogs that sometimes produce good stuff but not consistently, it just includes the consistent strong performers (in my judgment anyway). It also includes some selected international blogs and alternative media.
If you’d like to give yourself a flying start into the wonderful world of accessing online media via feed readers by downloading and importing my OPML into your own chosen reader, this is your chance. Here it is: feedreader.opml . Once you’ve imported the OPML to your chosen feed reader, you can customise it to your own taste by adding feeds for blogs or other sites you like and deleting any of my choices that you think are garbage. I suggest you’d be best using an online reader/aggregator like Google Reader or Bloglines because you can use it from any Internet-connected computer.
