Further to my previous post Leadership Renewal, I felt I should make a centrist endeavour to maintain blogging balance in sexuality as well as political terms. Accordingly, here’s a thumbnail of Geoff Honnor’s nominee for Liberal Party deputy leader – gay icon, NIDA drama student and former rugby league front row enforcer Ian Roberts.
Ian Roberts as deputy liberal leader? It’s worth pointing out Roberts was in the closet throughout his football career, just like another aspirant to the job, Brendan Nelson, was in the closet about being a Labor party member throughout his career in the AMA.
He actually came out when he was with Manly and then played two subsequent seasons with the Cowboys. Interestingly, he used to get far more
‘poofter’ stick from opposition crowds before he came out than he did afterwards…..
In that case, I withdraw my comment about Mr Roberts. I can’t wait to see him join the other NIDA graduates on Home and Away.
The comment about Nelson still stands.
“Home and Away?” That’s optimistic Dave! most of’em end up waiting tables in restaurants. Stylishly though…
