Masters of abuse

Christopher Sheil reckons there’s no such thing as a Left Wing Death Beast. It sounds to me like a dubious proposition at best. What about Paul Keating? Admittedly it’s a bit of a stretch describing him as a “left winger” but at least he’s an ALP politician not a Tory. Here’s a site I found dedicated to preserving some of Keating’s more memorable abuse.

Clyde Cameron was also a great hater and a formidable dispenser of abuse if I remember correctly, and he was well to the left of PJK. Readers may like to contribute other nominations for the LWDB Hall of Fame.

Update – Mind you Yobbo has also created an additional category: SLWE (Snide Left-Wing Elitist). Frankly, however, I don’t understand how anyone could imagine that elitism is confined to the left. The last word here should certainly go to PJK (talking to former ALP politician Diamond Jim McClelland): “Just because you swallowed a fucking dictionary when you were about 15 doesn’t give you the right to pour a bucket of shit over the rest of us.”

Careful. We may be forced to ask if CWDBs exist.

The entire NSW ALP Right is a testimony to the fact that there are DBs on the LW side of politics. Ask Peter Baldwin if he remembers Tom Dominican’s fists.
If they are too salty for your taste, what about the old VIC ALP Socialist Left – they played for keeps and knew a thing or two about political brutalism, as the careers of Bill Hartley and Norm Gallagher will testify.
In general culture Michael Moore is a contemporary LWDB intellectual.
In history, LWDB were the rule, rather than the exception, if the history of the leaders of the two largest socialist states, Mao in the PRC Stalin in the USSR, are anything to go by.
Some would argue that Hitler was also a Left winger of sorts. I am sure that characterisation will annoy many people, but [so] I think I can [will] defend it. Hitler simply did not regard non-Aryans as people, but for his target political jurisdiction he was an egalitarian national socialist.
His objection to communism was that it was internationalist and attracted Jews.
He opposed capitalism for the same reason.
Remember, just because you kill Left-wing people it does not mean that you aren’t Left-wing.

The entire NSW ALP Right is a testimony to the fact that there’s not a whole lot Left about it.

But we expect the Right to be elitists so it’s no fun! The Left, on the other hand, are avowedly anti-elitist….

Jack,
Hitler was the only one who got his country out of the depression ( and it wasn’t becasue of military expenditure either) and he beat hyper-inflation as well.
not bad for a bloke who hated capitalism. He rescued it! He was the first Keynsian though it was a pity he didn’t understand it but he had a damn fine finance minister.

Keating did have a nasty little tougue on him as I too well remember. If one bother to check the Hansards a little bloke with glasses likes to get stuck into people. Unfortunately his understanding of the english language was not as good as PJK thus no-one remembers his ‘withering’ attacks.

No Astor TV, AWA radiogram or Morphy Richards Toaster at that Keating site, I notice. Pity that.
