Long dark night of the long white cloud?

For those of us married to Kiwis, last night’s smashing 48-22 NRL win by the NZ Warriors over the Canterbury Bulldogs raised seriously for the first time the depressing prospect that Kiwi teams might well take out both the Rugby World Cup and the NRL premiership.

Sux months of spousal gloating isn’t something to anticipate with glee. The only upside is that the Warriors play the same brand of exciting, power-packed, open running rugby as the All Blacks. If you really believe in the old cliche that “the game’s the winner”, then both sides deserve to win because both deliver a superior brand of football entertainment to any current Australian team in either rugby code. If more rugby teams seriously attempted to play attacking rugby like the All Blacks or Warriors, rugby/league would unquestionably be the most popular spectator sport in the world. If you’ve got broadband Internet, you should be able to watch a video replay here within the next day or so.

Being a doggies fan, I’ll call the kiwis awesome thru clenched teeth. But consensus round here is that they might have thrown the game. Considering a) that next week is sudden death anyway, and b) no team has yet won the week after playing the warriors, the players might’ve been told don’t hurt yourselves and don’t worry about the score…

as far as going all the way, well, the warriors don’t have a kicker…

but as long as it ain’t melbourne : )

cracking game last night and a richly deserved premiership for the chocolate soldiers… my only regret was missing out on Roy & HG’s call, being at a pub in Bondi… which had a fair few Penrith supporters… or maybe they were just rooting against the Roosters

much better final than that other game that looks like a bunch of blokes chasing the soap in the shower

anyway, the first leg of your depressing double has failed to come in, which may be a positive portent for the ruggers…
