Gee…Just What They Needed….

Nigeria has just launched it’s first satellite – from a missile base in Russia.

The Washington Post reports Nigerian space agency spokesman, Solomon Olaniyi, saying that the government plans to use the $13 million satellite to monitor water resources, soil erosion, deforestation – and “disasters.” There’ll be ample scope, I’m sure.

One might have concluded that the provision of basic necessitities like fresh water etc would have had more priority than the Nigerian space race, but there you go.

I’d anticipate that the first bank account details request from a relative of the recently deceased Head of the Nigerian Space Program, will be in someone’s inbox by close of business :)

It’s not a satellite, it’s an offsite Exchange server.

compares and contrasts–

“The police officers who arrested Ms. Lawal produced no witnesses to fornication, the court said. The court also gave a nod to what defense lawyers had called the “sleeping embryo” theory: under some interpretations of Shariah, an embryo can be in gestation for up to five years, meaning that Ms. Lawal’s baby could have been fathered by her former husband…”

Yes indeed nardo. It’s a cheap satellite.

Jason, with the new satellites, they’ll be able to stone Women before they even leave the silo.

I think she’s had her baby, Jase – sentence would have been carried out when the poor thing was weaned… but the case has been dismissed…

all I know about law is to avoid it, but my old mate Dick told me that it’s a living thing, grown through its application… people have chosen to introduce sharia, let them deal with it… they seem to be… compare Nigeria’s record of judicial killings with other civilised nations…

not saying that you can’t have an opinion about it and voice it strongly (globalisation means never minding your own business), but I’ll take the optimistic view that those northern states will sort it out for themselves (having now had the added benefit of various views including mr ward’s), and anyway, c. shiel’s working hours are of more concern these days

(PS I thought Geoff’s space program spam gag was funny (and cheap at that!), but the post’s title and intro was lame… you got an abiding interest in the place, Geoff, to offer such considered advice?)

(PPS I don’t support stoning women – or even getting them stoned! except on special occasions – and endorse the glasshouses and first stone thrower maxims)
