All High Court decisions online

I’ll try and shut up for the rest of the day after this, and let other armadillos have a go, but I can’t let the opportunity slip to point out some excellent news for anyone with an interest in Australian law. AustLII, already the world’s premier free access online legal resource, has just secured the right to post all High Court decisions from the Court’s inception in 1903. Decisions from 1947 onwards have been available for a long time. The posting of older decisions is courtesy of the rights holder Thomson Legal & Regulatory Pty Ltd (Law Book Co), which publishes the authorised reports series Commonwealth Law Reports. High Court decisions form an important part of Australia’s general history and inform our culture, as well as being artefacts of current law and legal history, so their availability to readers without access to expensive subscription databases is welcome.

Ken Parish is a legal academic, with research areas in public law (constitutional and administrative law), civil procedure and teaching & learning theory and practice. He has been a legal academic for almost 20 years. Before that he ran a legal practice in Darwin for 15 years and was a Member of the NT Legislative Assembly for almost 4 years in the early 1990s.

of course they would do this at the end of my university legal studies. incidentally, according to a friend, the pre-’47 cases aren’t indexed in the main search engine.
