Mark at his Doctoral Graduation
I’m slowly finding my way around the Brisbane blogosphere. It’s very random – we don’t appear to have the same sort of community that exists in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. Or at least if there is one, I can’t find it. As I reported earlier, I came across a Brisvegas Blogger, Observant Little…, and one with good music taste and a shared fondness for hanging out at Ric’s Bar in the Valley via the 2005 Australian Blog Awards. I did anoint myself as the organiser for the Brisbane blogging meetup, but I haven’t time to organise anything because of the constraints of finishing my PhD.
Courtesy of an email from yellowvinyl, I’ve just discovered another academic Brisbane blogger – mc gregg – complete with a post on her doctoral graduation. At QUT by the way, we get to wear the floppy hat.
Anyone else who knows any Brisbane bloggers worth reading, or who happens to be a Brisbane blogger, feel free to get in touch or comment. My email address is m dot bahnisch at bigpond dot com We so need something like the Melbourne grogblogging here in Vegas.
UPDATE: I’ve taken the first steps towards trying to organise a Brisvegan blogging meetup. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but hopefully this will bear fruit in due course.
Mark, try http://brisvegasbloggers.blogspot.com/
Hey Mark,
Here are some interesting blogs for you from young Brisvegans.
http://www.chrenkoff.blogspot.com (I’m sure you know who this is! He has already finished off his PhD & while you may not agree with his politics, he is incredibly thorough with great links)
http://www.insom.cx (Occasionally interesting links & commentary)
http://www.monkeytypist.blogspot.com (occasionally interesting posts)
http://www.livejournal.com/users/stephendann (Another ideosyncratic individual I’m sure you remember. Lots of interesting links to Brisbane friend’s blogs and has his own Brisvegas blogger webring)
http://www.livejournal.com/users/melamoo (Young Brisbane anarcho-feminist riot grrl. Occasional interesting and controvertial rants, particularly concerning Queer politics).
http://www.livejournal.com/community/brisneyland/
http://www.livejournal.com/community/brisvegas/
http://www.boilsmyblood.blogspot.com (Another Brisbane centre-right blog with occasionally interesting comments from another QUT ex-student politician).
Enjoy,
Antonio
Two more that I forgot about.
Graham Young & co’s (Brisbane based) webblog:
http://nationalforum.com.au/the_domain/ambit_gambit/
Darlene Taylor (brisbane PhD student’s) webblog:
http://darlenetaylor.blogspot.com
Cheers,
Antonio
Many thanks, Antonio. The only ones I knew were the first and the last two. I remember Darlene and Stephen from Uni – I wonder why so many current and former student pollies end up as bloggers!
Here’s a link worth investigating:
http://anthonyjhicks.com/aussieblogs/
It shows a list of Australian bloggers with further subcategories by state. Bloggers who have registered with the site also have their latest posts automatically shown on the main page. It’s useful for discovering new blogs on a slow day, as well as a way of advertising your own blog.
If you have a blog, it wouldn’t hurt to register.
Cheers, ntp, great link.
Hah no bloody idea!
I will let you know when I find a Grant Muller or Matt Boland web blog though!
Now that would be weird…
I daresay there are lots of brisbane bloggers drinking grog – just not in the same place at the same time…
re – mc gregg – her comment about ranting about politics on yr blog being blokey was strange. I’m a girl and I’d rant about politics on my blog if I had one.
should clarify that I’m not a blokey girl – oh, and if I had a blog I could call it???? are there any helpful books along the lines of what to name yr kid?
btw, Mark, you look very fetching in yr robes.
the name issue is a sore spot for me because I’m still a tad puzzled that my parents called me Kimberly…
You should start your own blog, Kim. You could call it – yellowvinyl!
I may just do that, Mark. and thanks for the suggested name :)
but are Brisvegans ready for the rantings of a leftie bisexual lesbian-identified early 30 something amputee femme chick who’s an American citizen? maybe I could satirise identity politics?
Who could be more qualified than you for such a mission, Kim :)
Should you choose to accept it, let me know, and I’ll post a link.
Thx, Mark :)
I forgot “leftie small business owner”!
I’d read it, too, fwiw.
Rob, hopefully Kim will set one up!
ok, I’ve bowed to popular demand. well, Mark and Rob’s interest anyway. no guarentee that I’ll write anything very often, but here goes –

Excellent news, Kim! Welcome to blogdom!
I write for a worldwide blog (http://www.theterrarium.net) while attending UQ, so that makes us 1/7 Brisvegan. What’s the minimum percentage to join?
Chris, this blog is 1/11 Brisvegan so I’m sure you’re cool!
Hi Mark,
Great idea, My site simondodson.com, I live in brisbane as well….
No probs, Simon. Go join the meetup thing and watch the message board and email.
I think I have had a promotion. Ph.D. student? Alas, I am actually just a lowly employee of our fine City Council with a mediocre Arts degree.
Also, my address has changed to the one you go to when you link on my name. Blogger was too much trouble.
So many people blog, in my opinion, because they can’t get published anywhere else, but other than that I enjoy saying any old crap I want to.

Proving I couldn’t possibly have a Ph.D. I have just posted a comment twice (something I have been guilty of doing more than once – hi Evil Pundit).
Bet Chrenkoff would never do that.
Blog of a young and social business owner having a rant about clubs and bars in Brisbane to general Brisbane issues.
Can It Be?
Mark Bahnisch of Troppoarmadillo fame(?) reports that he is the organiser of a Brisbane Bloggers Meetup Group. Twenty-seven members, of…
