In case anyone finds this observation reassuring, less people have died in the London bombing than the US authorities incinerated at Waco.
I support joint activities with our ally when it is proper or expedient to do so (and especially when it is both proper and expedient). Still we should not be blind to the warts on the countenance of our ally, and indeed on our own body politic. I have in mind the trampling of civil liberties in the war on drugs, the entrenched racism of affirmative action and quotas, the mindless bureaucratic excesses of airport security, the obscene volume of corporate welfare in defiance of free trade. And Waco.

I agree.
Janet Reno is a war criminal.
Don’t remind me about airport security. I’m feeling nervous enough already. Last time we went through it Jen almost got herself arrested after she threw a histrionic tantrum when they refused to let her take her nail file through in hand luggage. And she’s flying again in only a couple of hours!! Should I search her carry-on luggage before we go to the airport, try to keep her calm, pretend I don’t know her and adjourn to the bar, or film the whole fiasco for Australia’s Funniest Home Videos? Hmmm!?
Yes,some airport security procedures are ridiculous. I have to put my swiss army knife in my checkin baggage yet I can take my ciggies and lighter into a departure lounge where they’ll cheerfully sell me large bottles of over proof and highly flammable liquids. Pick up a nice Hermes silk scarf while yer at it, and voila! molotov cocktail city.
Not to mention, one brisk rap of the empty Hennessy bottle on a flight attendant’s head or some other hard surface and you’ve got something far sharper than a nail file in yer hand.
Perhaps for security, and other reasons, they should just sedate passengers, load ’em into pods and decant and revive on arrival.
Gee, that’s an amusing relation Rafe. Yep, I agree with EP Reno was as much a wart on the US body politic as George Bush is today.

I HATE long-distance flying. This service should be available anyway – never mind the security benefits.
SedatAir — I’d fly it.
Any airline executives around?
