Welcoming Shaun Cronin

Shaun Cronin has joined the Troppo team to write occasional posts on rugby league (cf Christopher Sheil’s rugby union posts). Shaun mostly blogs at Larva Rodeo on political stuff. His LP bio sketch says:

Shaun Cronin is the blogger formerly known as Immanuel Rant. Back in the dim past he attained a Bachelor of Economics at University of New England. Said degree was put to good use leading him to be employed as an English teacher in Japan, taking up the role of a starving musician in Los Angeles and then stumbling into the IT industry in Sydney 8 years ago where he still works. He now lives on the Central Coast of NSW with his Beloved who both serve their cat, Akiyama.

I’m about to publish Shaun’s first post on RL post. I hope I’m not being too presumptuous given that Shaun left it in draft form this morning. Anyway, I guess he can always unpublish or edit it.

PS – Volunteer Troppo contributors/columnists on other sports, or arts areas (movies, books, music, pop culture/TV, visual arts) would also be more than welcome. Vicki will be implementing a “contact us” form later today that will allow you to express your interest.

(Welcome Shaun … I’ll read your posts, suitably, more slowly.)

OK, this also finally puts beyond all doubt the urban cyber legend that Parish enforces code dress rules around these parts.

Hey, Shaun! It’s a pretty good place to shoot off your weekly pub lecture on how your team’s going, I’ve found, enlivened as it is by a little sniping from non-believers.

True. But this weekend will test the relationship. Ken’s a Manly fan and they play my beloved Eels at the SCG on Sunday.

Nothing like league at the SCG. Those were the days.

It amazes me how often my comments irk him and usually I’m not trying to be irksome.

Mainly because I’ll support Union over AFL

Hmmm. Ken 1 Shaun 0

I was at telstra for Souths v Knights this arvo. The right team won, but boy it was scrappy and we were lucky. Another injury to Thaiday is a worry but Joey came through, despite missing the easiest field goal he will ever (not) take.

Good news for the Kangaroos, Buderus was great and was the difference for us in the end.

Oh, the agony. I was at the SCG and it was a great game and as Ken said the difference was the experience of Orford. I think Manly are going quite well at the moment and would trouble most teams in their current form. Can they keep it up for the season?

As for the Blue and Gold, once we learn that games last for 80 minutes we’ll be right. 5 minute lapse just before half time cost us. Still the goal line defense of the Eels at times during the match was outstanding.

A fitting game to mark the ’76 Grand Final and nice to see league at the SCG.
