David “Barista” Tiley is out of hospital after a harrowing surgical and subsequent ordeal. Fortunately, as ubiquitous commenter Nabakov observes, the loss of part of the bowel and the whole of his spleen (not to mention a heart attack along the way) hasn’t done David’s writing skills any harm at all. In fact his moving account of his experiences at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital is one of the most superb pieces of writing I can remember the blogosphere producing (and way better than anything you’re likely to read in the mainstream media). Do yourself a favour and read it. If the canetoad is a national icon, Tiley is a national treasure
