Peter Whiteford, an Australian working with the OECD in Paris will be presenting a seminar in Melbourne next week at the Brotherhood of St Laurence in Fitzroy (details below the fold).
People who are regular visitors to this blog and some others such as Andrew Norton’s and Andrew Leigh’s will recognise Peter as an occasional commentator who usually manages to shed a fair bit of light on social policy discussions, especially if they involve a degree of inter-country comparison.

Dr Peter Whiteford
Recent trends in child poverty in OECD countries – how does Australia compare?
Dr Whiteford is a leading Australian social policy scholar currently working at the OECD. He will present the most recent OECD research on child poverty. His comparative research has concentrated on international comparisons of systems of social protection and comparisons of poverty and income distribution. These studies include comparisons of assistance for families and sole parents in 18 countries, the income circumstances of the aged in ten countries, and pension systems and policy in the APEC economies (for the Asian Development Bank). He was a co-author of a major study published by the UK Department of Social Security and the OECD on social assistance in OECD countries.
