A title that ought to be cleverer than it is

This an opinion piece, my effort to entertain or provoke you while I make an important point.

In this paragraph I should start making an argument for the Important Point but, I’m off to bad start. My title should have included some clever figure of speech like a pun or literary allusion. I couldn’t think of one.

The first paragraph ought to have stated the Important Point that I’m trying to make but it didn’t. My point is that I don’t understand how to write an opinion piece. It’s not a particularly important point but I should have made it in the first paragraph. Then in the second paragraph I should have illustrated the point.

And obviously, instead of discussing the first paragraph, that last paragraph should have continued the argument or illustration of the point I’m trying to make. Clearly things aren’t going well.

By this stage I should be thinking about how to wrap things up. But somehow I’ve wasted all my paragraphs discussing other parts of the opinion piece. Perhaps I should just re-state my Important Point.

Hmmm… unconvincing, in the final analysis.

It is true that the scaffolding for an Important Point must always be prioritised, foregrounded against the Important Point which, where possible, should always remain obscured by its apparatus of delivery.

Always allow the audience some scope to reply.

It should be recalled that this remains the one certain way to prevent exposure or disclosure of the utter ineptitude and magnitude of ignorance of the subject to which the Important Point relates, as to its presenter.

A truly moronic and anti-intellectual posting. What gives you the right to impose on everyone else your own views about the centrality of The Move in the Troppo narrative? And why do you value entertainment above analysis? Judging by your comments about what is self-evidently good – knee-jerk neoliberal pun-dominated important-pointery, apparently – you seem to be opposed not merely to progressive thinking but to any form of critical reflection whatsoever. No wonder the place is going down the S-bend.

(I felt an important thread like this should have a representative pseudo-intellectual blog comment. Fell free to add other generic comment types.)

I don’t often comment on blogs any more, but this time I couldn’t resist.

This is where I should leave a witty and insightful comment with a clever segue to my own blog as a device to have said blog’s url included in the comment for view-whoring purposes. See below.
