Rob Corr at Kick & Scream has come up with a good argument for Gillard as leader - unlike Henri IV, for her, Paris isn't worth a mass. She's got some convictions.

Gilly will only become leader if she migrates to the right wing.
Remember where you heard when this eventually happens.
Um, we heard it at Liam Hogan's site quite some time ago, Homer.
I actually said earlier on this site.
Mind you it is bleeding obvious so no-one be at all surprised. As I have said many times. She is the best leftwinger you would like. She is a right winger in one of the left wing factions.
For the uninitiated. If Iron Mark does not want to resign then it is unlikely there will be a vote.
This is because:
1) Bomber does not want to become Leader in a contest. He can't afford to lose again. Therefore a lot of pressure on Ruddy not to contest.
2) Ruddy is unlikely to want to because he needs at least a respectable vote to remain a 'contender'. He didn't even have that last time.
3) both would not want a vote with Latham in there.
Thus the push for Iron Mark to resign.
Also the argument that an unsettled Federal party is bad for Gallup is baloney.
If anything it is a plus.
There are lots a of voters who switch camps when they vote in a State election. Polling suggests if anything people like different governments at Federal and State levels.
I tend to think that Galluip and the rest are looking for scapegoats!
Well - the race is on - Latham has resigned, not just as leader but from. Beasley is holding a press conference later - I bet that's one hat in the ring already.
oops! Not just as leader but from politics.
I wonder how long the new leader will last? Can't see them being there for the next election.
Rudd is also holding a press conference, scheduled to be on before Beazley's.
Homer, thanks for your insights into WA politics. The fact that you can't spell the Premier's name betrays your ignorance. The federal leadership instability was becoming a big problem -- apart from the fact that it chewed up valuable political news time, it also allowed Barnett to take better advantage of the "Howard Halo". I'm glad it's being resolved, and Beazley will strengthen our chances in WA.
robvert,
That is hosre petunias.
I cut my teeth on loking at Federal/State implications.
Anyone in either party who has looked at this will tell you that people are more likely to vote for the ALP in a state if the Libs are in power in canberra and vica versa.
voters are quite capanble of translating what arestate issues and what are federal issues.
If Gallup goes it is his own fault.
Barnett wrote a reasonable master's thesis in economics as I recall.
