One hour and twenty three minutes before Kramnik bangs his head against the Monster again. Poor man.

What I am reading (re-reading actually, more there the second time): John Passmore's low key but inspirational memoire of "a semi-detatched Australian".

Never met him. Comments invited from people who did.

An amusing little challenge if you're looking for some mental relaxation.

Rafe, I used to go to the seminars run by Eugene Kamenka at the History of Ideas Unit at ANU from memory on Wednesday at 12 noon adjourning for lunch at Uni House.

Eugene smoked like a chimney and headed for the smallest most windowless room in the cellar bar. So the atmosphere was not much chop. I was sitting next to John Passmore on one occasion and he was complaining about what bad service Westpac was giving him. He said he was writing a letter to the manager. I said to him that he needed to have some market power for them to give a bugger about his letter.

He said that he did have market power explaining that he had a large proportion of his life savings with them. I said something polite like "I see".

    Eugene kept puffing away.
