Having read more about the Kafka Project - mentioned in an earlier post - I can say that it is really kicking some goals (pdf).

For instance.

The blind and visually impaired used to need a permit from the mayor of their municipality to use a white or yellow stick. In order to prove their disability they needed to provide a certificate from their ophthalmologist.

Given that the ophthalmologist determines the right to use a stick, the prior authorisation from the local municipality was abolished at the end of February 2005. It was also decided in mid October 2005 to get rid of the so-called âyellow stickâ. As a result, all blind and visually impaired persons will from now on use a âwhite stickâ.
